Tuesday at 2:00pm with Russ

It's Tuesday at 2:00pm! (PST Time: I live and work from Southern California)

ENERGY.

Personal Energy is something I often take for granted.

I expect that every morning, I will wake up with a certain amount of energy that I can manage throughout the day, and hopefully it will last! I've learned over my years how to "replenish" my energy quickly with some tips and tricks, and I've learned about the things that "deplete" my energy more quickly.

Managing my energy is still a challenge everyday.

This past week, I had some unexpected time to think about my energy management, and I read a couple of great articles that got me thinking.

#1) Seth Godin "Conservation of Energy in Conversation" (April 16, 2013)

He writes a short blog (his are always short!) where he talks about how we can add negative energy or positive energy to any situation with the way we engage with people.

Read his full post HERE.

What stood out to me was simply to understand how negative energy can affect me in my day. When something comes up and is negative, it has the potential to get me off track, and when I'm off track, I tend to burn a lot of energy trying to get back on course.

#2) Sally Anne Carroll "Simple Ways to Manage Your Energy Every Day"

You can read her full post HERE.

What I really appreciated about her article is this:

  • First, it's holistic. She addresses energy in your body, mind, spirit, emotions and commitments. I like the "whole person" approach.

  • Second, she provides some simple things to do each day to figure out where you're at, and it begins with awareness.

  • Third, she connects the dots between energy management and priority management.

There are some good tips and thoughts from her article that will help you.

Bill Hybels once said,

"A leader's most valuable asset is not their time but

their energy and ability to energize others."

How are you doing managing your energy today?

Are you spending as much time managing your energy as you are your time?

Have you stopped to take a look at your life to find areas that would improve your energy?

Don't take your energy for granted. It is your most valuable asset, and if you live in a state of "energy depletion", it will catch up with you as it will affect every other area of your life.

Some of you know that I do LifePlans for Executive Leaders. One of the most effective tools we use is called "The Replenishment Cycle" and it addresses energy and how we can learn to restore our own energy by learning about what fuels us.

"The energy of the mind is the essence of life." Aristotle

"Everything is energy and that's all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics." Albert Einstein

  • Things I'm Reading, Listening To, an Watching This Week:

    • Ty Stakes shares this great resource from Samuel Thomas Davies. Some great book summaries and articles for free! Check it out. Also, if you have other tips, resources or links to share, send them to me HERE.

    • After watching the inauguration last week in the USA, I flipped back to watch The West Wing again. What a great show!

    • Easily one of my favorite artists of all time, Jackson Browne has a great Essential Album on Apple. I really like the acoustic versions from his greatest hits albums.

    • Greg McKeowns book, ESSENTIALISM is an interesting look at how we can simplify our lives to focus on what is most important. A really good book to consider when looking at your personal ENERGY.

    • I'm a "golf nerd" and have watched Tigers rise and fall and return to golf. His story is crazy and the new 2-part documentary from HBO looks at his life. The story is a tough one but it's an interesting look at someone who has lived under the spotlight their entire life. Tiger
