Tuesday at 2:00pm with Russ

It's Tuesday at 2:00pm! (PST Time: I live and work from Southern California)

In this New Year I'm going to continue to explore some leadership quotes that might challenge us, inspire us or remind us of different aspects of the leadership journey. This is part of my personal journey to keep growing, learning and being stretched! Join me each Tuesday at 2:00pm (PST). It will take you just a few minutes to read through the 2 sections of this post, but don't miss the final section where I share some of the things I'm reading, listening to and enjoying this week.

You can find past posts on my website HERE.

Enjoy!

LEADERSHIP QUOTE:

"Lack of time is actually lack of priorities" Tim Ferriss

What does this stir up? Either write me HERE or comment at the end of the blog post HERE.

A LITTLE BIT DEEPER:

I've been following Tim Ferriss for a number of years, primarily through a couple of his books and his podcast.

The above quote from Ferriss is simply another reminder to me that I should be in control of my priorities!

Why do I often feel like I'm chasing these things instead of thriving around them?

Jim Collins makes this even simpler in his book, Good to Great when he clarifies, "If you have more then three priorities, you don't have any."

There is so much help out there in the form of resources to help us zero in on these priorities. We really shouldn't have any excuses, besides our general desire and discipline to focus.

What would be your top THREE priorities that you're focused on today?

DEEPER STILL:

I'm sure you've heard the line, "When you say no to something it means you can say yes to something else." This has been said by many people and it's something I regularly think about.

This really aligns with the conversation around priorities.

If you're like me, there are just too many priorities in your life. Things you value, things you have committed to and things you want to do. We continually stack our lives in a way that it's unsustainable and impossible to live with any health, margin or balance.

I listened to James Clears book again this past week, Atomic Habits, and once again he reminded me of how simple it should be. We make everything much more complicated than we need to.

Instead of focusing on time management, I want to focus on priority management. What is truly the most important thing for me to focus on... not the 25 most important things, but the 3.

Today I'm reminded that not only do I need to identify areas of my life that are connected to my work, but I also need to pay attention to the personal side of my life, the priorities that keep me moving in the right direction and grounded in my values.

It's November 21st today. I'm thankful for the opportunity to evaluate, to fine-tune and to reconnect with the priorities that drive me today! What about you?

Things I'm Reading, Listening To and Watching This Week:

  • Find out more about Tim Ferriss

  • I just read John Grisham's latest book, The Exchange. Really enjoyed it as it picked up the characters from The Firm.

  • Recently while in Portand, Maine, we stayed at a great hotel, The Press Hotel. We loved the city, but really liked the hotel, the vibe and the style.

  • I enjoyed listening to a Colbie Caillat Essential soundtrack on a recent flight. Really good music!

  • Here are some great Thanksgiving Quotes to enjoy!

"Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!" 1 Chronicles 16:34 (ESV)
