Tuesday at 2:00pm with Russ

It's Tuesday at 2:00pm! (PST Time: I live and work from Southern California)

Greetings to you!

Each week I send out a short leadership blog that's called "Tuesday at 2:00pm". The purpose of this is simply to provide a brief thought on leadership that you can read and think about in just a few minutes. I send it out every week at 2:00pm (PST) and encourage you to make an appointment with yourself to pause and think about the thing I'm writing about. Sometimes you'll connect with it and other times you'll just blow by it. That's fine. I believe that we're all looking for inspiration, reminders, encouragement and some practical lessons, and if this weekly thought provides this for you in some way, then that's the goal.

I send this to a list of about 500 people who I've had the privilege to connect with over my years on this leadership journey, and I enjoy any feedback, critique or questions you'd like to engage in. This should never feel like an obligation, but an opportunity to think and consider where you're at in your personal journey.

Lastly, I always include a short list of things I'm discovering, reading, using, watching, listening to, or encouraged by. This is just a way for me to share and endorse some things that you might enjoy.

I hope this New Year, 2024 is a great year for you, and hopefully some of the words, thoughts, tools & reminders are useful and helpful for you.

You can find past posts on my website HERE.

Off we go in 2024!

LEADERSHIP QUOTE:

"Once you have mastered time, you will understand how true it is that most people overestimate what they can accomplish in a year - and underestimate what they can achieve in a decade!" Tony Robbins

What does this stir up? Either write me HERE or comment at the end of the blog post HERE.

A LITTLE BIT DEEPER:

I always start the New Year with some thoughts on personal productivity, and this quote from Tony Robbins gives us a big picture to look at.

This month, I'd like to share a few of your "PRODUCTIVITY HACKS".

I'll share a few over this month, but if you'd like to share with others, just send me a personal email with a short description of what you have found is most helpful to you, especially at this time of year as you are beginning anew. Please also include if the idea is yours or if you picked it up from someone else. We want to give credit to where it's due. Send your PRODUCTIVITY HACK to me HERE. I look forward to hearing and learning from you.

Many you of know that I'm a certified coach with The Paterson Center. We offer 2 tools to clients: First is a PERSONAL LIFEPLAN and second is a STRATOP (strategic planning for an organization/company).

I'm going to share each week over the next 4 weeks a couple of the tools we use in LifePlanning and Strategic Planning that have made an impact in my personal life.

As 2024 begins, I have spent some time working through these tools over the past number of days, and it provides some clarity, direction and action steps for where I want to get to.

Please take a moment to share any of your Productivity Hacks. It doesn't matter how simple or small they are. They may be just the thing someone else is looking for!

DEEPER STILL:

I shared this tool with you before, and most recently in December, but this might be the BEST THING YOU CAN DO TODAY.... so I'm sharing it again.

The idea is to simply TAKE YOUR PULSE on how you're feeling about things RIGHT NOW, at the moment you pause to answer these questions.

This is simply called 4 Helpful Lists from Tom Paterson and there are 4 questions to ask yourself:

#1). What is RIGHT? (how can I optimize the things that are right?)

#2) What is WRONG? (what needs to change?)

#3) What is CONFUSED? (what needs clarification?)

#4) What is MISSING? (what do I need to add?)

Just make a list of things after each question, and then spend some time thinking, praying, celebrating or working out how to address that in your life.

The exercise is used primarily to show some things that you wouldn't readily think of, but it also creates a template of things that you might need to pay attention to.

Be careful: This isn't supposed to become a To-Do List. This is simply used to help you identify and focus on some areas of your life where you need to pay some attention to.

This tool can be used over and over, and it changes quickly as our lives are constantly changing. Make this tool a regular tool in your life and leadership, and it can be applied to any and all situations!

Things I'm Reading, Listening To and Watching This Week:

  • I really enjoy The Pause App from John Eldredge. A great way to start your day, focused on Jesus and His Word.

  • Last week I watched a documentary on Netflix called Inventing David Geffen. Really interesting story of his impact in the world of music and entertainment.

  • When I need "down time" I read fiction books, and David Baldacci is one of my favorite authors. I just started The Edge over the weekend.

  • OK, I'm a little obsessed with this quality of paper. I use it to print things that I need to keep or work on, and the quality just makes the experience better! Russ' Favorite Paper

  • My son introduced me to this artist over the weekend, and I've enjoyed listening to him: Charley Crockett Essentials
