LEADERSHIP QUOTES

We're exploring some great quotes that will help us in our lives and leadership. If you'd like to share your favorite with me, please post on the comments section of the Blog. You can read these past posts HERE.

The format for this season is the following:

#1) LEADERSHIP QUOTE: I'm going to share a quote with you. I'd like to encourage you to think about it, respond to it, process it. You can stop here, or go to Section 2.

#2) A LITTLE BIT DEEPER: I'm going to share a couple of thoughts that come to my mind when I think about the quote. Just a short reaction from me. You can stop here, or go to Section 3.

#3) DEEPER STILL: I'm going to share something I've found from someone else: A quote, some tips, a challenge, a thought....

#4) RUSS' LIST: I'll continue to share some links, ideas, books or products that I think some of you might benefit from.

LEADERSHIP QUOTE:

"The most difficult thing is the decision to act. The rest is merely tenacity." Amelia Earhart

What does this stir up? Either write me HERE or comment at the end of the blog post HERE.

A LITTLE BIT DEEPER:

There are 2 things in this quote from Earhart that really stand out to me:

First, is the idea that for anyone to take action, there's a point of decision that sets things in motion. For many of us, this is where we get stuck: we freeze in fear, we are worried about the outcome and we are concerned about what others will think if we fail. We're stuck.

Second, is the idea of tenacity. Tenacity can be defined as determination or persistence. Tenacity is the ability to work hard to accomplish something you've made the decision to pursue. For many of us, this is where we run out of steam: we get distracted, we are lazy, or we question our direction, and this brings us back to the point of action.

How do you manage these 2 aspects of the quote: Decision Making and Tenacity? What keeps you from deciding to act? What helps you focus and pursue something with determination?

DEEPER STILL:

Let me dive into your personal self-leadership for a minute:

When you approach a decision to make, if you're not coming at that with confidence, many times I see a direct correlation to a leaders self-leadership, and this causes me to ask some questions:

  • Do you have healthy margins in your life, looking at areas of personal, family, community and work?

  • Are you physically healthy, or are you exhausted?

  • Do you have people around you the help you and support you, or do you feel like you're carrying everything on your own shoulders?

I know this sounds simple, but I really believe that as we lead from a place of personal health, we'll be able to make better decisions, and then accomplish the things those decisions point to.

If you're struggling in either of these areas, do a personal audit, and maybe get some help through a Coach or a Counselor!

I don't know much about Amelia Earhart, but I do know that she did some extraordinary things in the world of aviation and women's empowerment.

What could you do if you came at every decision from a place of health, determination and clarity? What do you need to start with today?

Things I'm Reading, Listening To and Watching This Week:

  • I just ordered this audio book: Amelia Earhart: East to the Dawn by Susan Butler. I want to learn more about this woman's life and legacy.

  • I really enjoyed this podcast on How I Built This with Guy Raz this week. It's the story of Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey with an interview with Fawn Weaver.

  • This past week, we learned more about Hope International, an organization that is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty around the world. Our church is hosting an event on October 26th to show people how savings groups are changing lives. Come and join us at Foothills Church RSM (Orange County, California). Register Here.

  • Here's a flash-back playlist: Bread Essentials

  • I've been carrying this carbon fiber wallet for a while and enjoy it. Check it out HERE.
