LEADERSHIP QUOTES

We're exploring some great quotes that will help us in our lives and leadership. If you'd like to share your favorite with me, please post on the comments section of the Blog. You can read these past posts HERE.

The format for this season is the following:

#1) LEADERSHIP QUOTE: I'm going to share a quote with you. I'd like to encourage you to think about it, respond to it, process it. You can stop here, or go to Section 2.

#2) A LITTLE BIT DEEPER: I'm going to share a couple of thoughts that come to my mind when I think about the quote. Just a short reaction from me. You can stop here, or go to Section 3.

#3) DEEPER STILL: I'm going to share something I've found from someone else: A quote, some tips, a challenge, a thought....

#4) RUSS' LIST: I'll continue to share some links, ideas, books or products that I think some of you might benefit from.

LEADERSHIP QUOTE:

"Wherever you are - be all there." Jim Elliot

What does this stir up? Either write me HERE or comment at the end of the blog post HERE.

A LITTLE BIT DEEPER:

Pretty profound thoughts from Jim Elliot, but this past week when I saw this quote, I just stopped to think about it. It's pretty simple to me, he's telling me: Don't Live Distracted!

Yet, we ALL live distracted.

Have you noticed people sitting in a restaurant? Most of them are on their phones, completely oblivious to what's going on around them.

Have you been annoyed by someone at the movie theater that keeps turning their phone off and on to check messages?

In church recently I noticed how many people are using their phones Bible app instead of carrying a Bible.

We are tethered to distraction most of the day, and if you're like me, it's hard to manage the temptation to stay "present" all the time.

Jim Elliots reminder comes to me at a time that I'm busy and at a time that I'm trying to multitask to get the most out of my time.

Most of us don't multitask well. What ends up happening is we don't do our best, people feel used and we hurt the relationships around us that mean the most to us. What does "BE ALL THERE" look like to you?

DEEPER STILL:

I'm not criticizing the phone... it's a great tool that makes life easier and helps us to be more productive, however, there are a lot of things that keep us from being present.

The Jim Elliot quote has a second part... the full quote says:

"Wherever you are, be all there! Live to the hilt every

situation you believe to be the will of God".

The rest of that quote changes things... It's not just about being "all there" but it's about being where God wants us, and then we're to really enjoy being there!

This week, my daughter Raylin is marrying Sam. We're excited and we're ready to celebrate because we're confident and thankful that this is from God.

I'm going to spend as much of the week as possible "being all there" because I don't want to miss a thing.

What about you? What are you missing? How can you be more present to those around you this week? How can you be "all there" in the conversations you're going to have this week? "Live to the Hilt!"

Things I'm Reading, Listening To and Watching This Week:

  • I'm working through a great book this week from Peter K. Greer called SUCCESSION. You can read more about Peter on his website... He's the real deal.

  • The National Christian Foundation has financial solutions for many things, and they will help you move money into impact. Check out their website HERE.

  • Sharon Says So is someone I've been following on Instagram for a while as she gives a great perspective on US politics, history and current events. She has a podcast that I just recently discovered: Sharon Says So Podcast

  • Great music from Jason Mraz Essentials.

  • The best white board markers from Pilot V Board Master. Try them.
