It's Tuesday at 2:00pm! (PST Time: I live and work from Southern California)
In this New Year I'm going to continue to explore some leadership quotes that might challenge us, inspire us or remind us of different aspects of the leadership journey. This is part of my personal journey to keep growing, learning and being stretched! Join me each Tuesday at 2:00pm (PST). It will take you just a few minutes to read through the 2 sections of this post, but don't miss the final section where I share some of the things I'm reading, listening to and enjoying this week.
I also invite you to share your favorite quote with a short description of "why it's your favorite". Simply send it to me HERE and I'll post it in an upcoming Tuesday at 2:00pm.
You can find past posts on my website HERE.
Enjoy!
LEADERSHIP QUOTE:
“Some people spend their entire lives waiting for the time to be right to make an improvement." James Clear
What does this stir up? Either write me HERE or comment at the end of the blog post HERE.
A LITTLE BIT DEEPER:
We've spent a few weeks with James Clear and his book Atomic Habits. This is the final quote from him that we'll dive into, and it's simply a reminder that NOW is the time to start doing the things that you know you should be doing. Don't put it off!
I'm sure you all know people who talk a lot about the things they will do...someday. Hopefully you're not one of those "someday" people.
I think that one of the things I really appreciated about this book as I went back to it was his simple challenge to just START. Start small, get some small wins, and keep moving forward.
It's not impossible, but it's POSSIBLE.
As we've been talking about habits the past few weeks, what is the habit you keep coming back to? The habit that you keep thinking about but you haven't done anything about? Now is the time!
DEEPER STILL:
Week #4 on my Rowing Machine Run. Hit 6 days last week, and increased my daily time and distance. It's been good to be back on this thing each day!
I shared 3 of the 4 rules over the past couple of weeks. Here they are:
#1) MAKE IT OBVIOUS: Write it down, be specific, share it
#2) MAKE IT ATTRACTIVE: "tempt" yourself with the action
#3) MAKE IT EASY: Design for success, plan on doing it!
And the 4th Rule is: MAKE IT SATISFYING
Our brains prioritize immediate rewards over long-term rewards, and while good habits may be transforming for our futures, our brain only cares about the here and now. Do something that sparks joy immediately after you complete the new habit.
After I row, I walk to the fridge and get something good to drink, like a sparkling water or a protein drink. I reward myself!
4 rules to help you get some habits moving, growing and working in your life. I encourage you to read the full book, but this will get you thinking!
Take the habit you thought about above and walk it through these 4 rules... break it down so you can accomplish it, and then go for it!
Things I'm Reading, Listening To and Watching This Week:
The other night we pulled out our little "Dominoe Suitcase" for a good game of Mexican Train. Fun game with our family... although Sam kept winning!
Read Atomic Habits or listen to it. It's an encouraging book about change, habits and results!
I often share links to these companies: If you're looking for a good online stock trading account, check out ROBINHOOD If you like your bath products mailed to you, visit DOLLAR SHAVE CLUB
I'd love to connect with you and network with you on LinkedIn. Look for me and let's connect!
I mentioned that I like Sparkling Water. I keep this stocked at all times from Costco.
FEATURED GUEST QUOTE: If you have a quote you'd like to share with the readers of this blog, simply send me the quote, who wrote it, and share what it means to you in a few words. I'll post it when there's space!
