It's Tuesday at 2:00pm! (PST Time: I live and work from Southern California)

LEADERSHIP QUOTES

I'm going to spend a few weeks looking at some great quotes. We started last week with a quote from Genghis Khan. Here's the format:

#1) LEADERSHIP QUOTE: I'm going to share a quote with you. I'd like to encourage you to think about it, respond to it, process it. You can stop here, or go to Section 2.

#2) A LITTLE BIT DEEPER: I'm going to share a couple of thoughts that come to my mind when I think about the quote. Just a short reaction from me. You can stop here, or go to Section 3.

#3) DEEPER STILL: I'm going to share something I've found from someone else: A quote, some tips, a challenge, a thought....

#4) RUSS' LIST: I'll continue to share some links, ideas, books or products that I think some of you might benefit from.

My dad recently gave me a book of quotes, and as I've sat to think about them, I thought it would be fun to process with you as well. Go as deep as you'd like each week, and let me know what you're thinking about.

LEADERSHIP QUOTE:

"You must do the thing you think you cannot do." Eleanor Roosevelt

What does this stir up? Either write me HERE or comment at the end of the blog post HERE.

A LITTLE BIT DEEPER:

Leadership is about courage, but it's also about facing your fears.

I get motivated when someone tells me I CAN'T DO SOMETHING. Sometimes that's the drive to accomplish something that seems impossible.

Leadership is also about modeling for others what is possible and what isn't possible.

While the accuracy of this story is questionable, the short scene from the movie Pearl Harbor illustrates the power of leadership as Franklin D. Roosevelt, Eleanors husband, stands in leadership. See It Here

Does doing the impossible motivate you?

Do you surprise yourself when you accomplish something you thought you would never do?

DEEPER STILL:

Eleanor Roosevelts quote comes from a longer statement:

"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do."

From the book, You Learn by Living

As leaders, when we stand up, we grow. Think back to points in your leadership where you were able to grow in your leadership by leading through some really difficult situations.

You are stronger, more couragious and more confident because of your experiences leading against the impossible. Be thankful for each of those opportunities to "test" your leadership.
