PRIORITIES
This morning I had coffee with a friend that shared with me the importance of his "to-do list". He uses a blend of paper and electronics to determine what he does each day, and he shared how good he feels when he gets through that list each day.
Last week I listened to a podcast of Gary Keller (The One Thing/Keller-Williams) and he talked about his "to-do list" and how important is was for him to define that list and work it each day.
Today I want to share how I manage mine:
I use my computer and phone to take notes of things that I need to do, then I bring it together with my calendar.
I use an Action Planner Pad from NeuYear to write out my daily plan.
#1) I write the list of tasks that I need to accomplish down.
#2) I estimate how long each task will take.
#3) I choose the hardest one, and schedule it first
#4) I schedule my tasks in order of importance
#5) I integrate my calendar into my tasks
#6) I execute: I work the list
You may not be a list person, but this practice and discipline helps you to:
- Determine Your Priorities
- Tackle Difficult Things First
- Schedule Your Day
- Experience Success When You Finish a Task
My day, life, and work is made up of a lot of tasks and to-do items. This is just how life works.
I think it's difficult to manage priorities if you don't take the time to write them down, define them and schedule them.
Look at the day and week before you:
* What would make you feel that you're being productive?
* What would help you define where you need to start?
* What tools do you use to manage these things in your life?
"No one is always busy. It just depends on what number you are on their priority list." Unknown
"If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse." Unknown
"The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being." Matthew 6:21
