Tuesday at 2:00pm with Russ

It's Tuesday at 2:00pm! (PST Time: I live and work from Southern California)

Currently, I'm exploring different leadership quotes on this blog post, and pulling out some application for all of us. This is part of my personal journey to keep growing, learning and being stretched! Join me each Tuesday at 2:00pm (PST). It will take you just a few minutes to read through the 2 sections of this post, but don't miss the final section where I share some of the things I'm reading, listening to and enjoying this week.

LEADERSHIP QUOTE:

"Take a break and give your soul what it needs." Audrey Kitching

What does this stir up? Either write me HERE or comment at the end of the blog post HERE.

A LITTLE BIT DEEPER:

The quote above is my response to a pretty hard run over the past number of months.

Last week, Gina and I spent 5 glorious days unplugged, sitting on a beach, and just getting a break.

This was in response to a pretty full season that included a couple of our kids weddings, some health challenges post-Covid, some work transition, a large global leadership Summit and lot's of other things that felt like they were piled on top of everything else.

I remember back in October of 2021 saying to myself that when we arrived at April 10th of 2022, we would have gotten through a pretty crazy season.

We made it, and we took a break and recharged our souls.

It's amazing how good it feels to simply STOP.

When was the last time you just STOPPED? Sat still, read a book for fun, slept in.... just STOPPED? If you're having a difficult time remembering, you need to get some STOP TIME on your calendar!

DEEPER STILL:

If you're like me, you've said one time or another... "When I get past this season then I'll take a break". The problem is, this season ends and a new one begins.

I'm learning that this is just the cycle of life. We move from one season to the next and it keeps coming.

We can't wait for something to change, but we need to "LEAD OUR TIME" by proactively scheduling those breaks and that "soul renewing time" into the rhythm of our lives.

My goal in this new season of life is to work on being more intentional and disciplined in scheduling that time to STOP. This last season was too long, and I need to learn from the past in order to make changes for the future.

Today, I'm back at it. Ready for this new season of life, challenges, opportunities and adventure! There is a lot to do, but I'm full and renewed. How are you taking on today: from a position of DEPLETION or from a position of HEALTH?

Things I'm Reading, Listening To and Watching This Week:

  • Jackson Browne wrote a song called "Downhill from Everywhere". It's a song talking about pollution in the ocean, and as I sat on the beach last week and watched whales play in the water, I was challenged with my role in protecting the oceans, especially from plastic. The ocean brings healing to my soul. I'm thinking about this and considering what I can do. If you have thoughts, please share them with me.

  • One of the best things I did was the 3-year Masters Program from Priority Living. This provided me some tools to "Lead My Life & Time" and help me create margin, purpose and to pursue my calling with everything I have without sacrificing the things that are most important to me. You should check out this leadership program.

  • I shared this last week, but I just opened my new quarterly planner to begin working on the months ahead of me, and this format has really helped me plan and create some goals around my plans.Full Focus Planner from the Michael Hyatt Company

  • OK... I finally got pulled into the Cobra Kai Series on Netflix. Just started it, but was surprised how fun it was to relive some of the Karate Kid memories in this new show. Worth a look!

  • I spent some time this morning in the Atomic Habits book from James Clear. He shares some great ways to lock habits into your life and routine. I've spent a lot of time in this book over the past number of months and I keep picking it up again and again.
