It's Tuesday at 2:00pm! (PST Time: I live and work from Southern California)
Currently, I'm exploring different leadership quotes on this blog post, and pulling out some application for all of us. This is part of my personal journey to keep growing, learning and being stretched! Join me each Tuesday at 2:00pm (PST). It will take you just a few minutes to read through the 2 sections of this post, but don't miss the final section where I share some of the things I'm reading, listening to and enjoying this week.

LEADERSHIP QUOTE:
"Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans." From John Lennon's Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)

A LITTLE BIT DEEPER:
While Lennon used this line in his song, the words have been spoken by a number of people prior.
I thought this idea went well with the Steve Jobs quote from last week:
"Your time is limited so don't waste it living someone else's life."
It's early October, and time does seem to be speeding up. As we enter into the final quarter of the calendar year, I find myself re-thinking my aggressive list of goals and projects I had hoped to accomplish this year. I'm running out of time, so I'm crossing things off the list, merging projects, and trying to figure out what is the most important.
However, the danger is as I focus frantically on the tasks at hand, I run the risk of missing out on some of the things that are right in front of me... LIFE.
Here's the simple reminder today: Don't get LOST in your planning. There are things that are happening all around you every day... don't miss them!
DEEPER STILL:
There was a great Ben Stiller film that came out in 2013 called "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty".
The story was based on a character who would often "zone out" dreaming of great adventure while he lived a pretty boring, mundane life. The movie takes him from just being zoned out to having a great adventure and of course, finding love.
I've watched the movie a number of times, and when I listened to John Lennon sing these words that I quoted above, I thought about Walter Mitty.
In his mind, he was having these incredible things happen, but while he was daydreaming, he was missing out on the conversations going on around him, and people made fun of him for "disappearing" from time to time.
Sometimes I'm like that. It can appear that I'm "present", but I'm really in a different world: thinking, dreaming, wondering, imagining. This often happens when I drive, and sometimes I completely lose track of where I'm going. (Don't worry, I keep my eyes on the road.)
Walters imagination wasn't a bad thing, but at times, he missed out on some really important things that were happening around him.
Keep Dreaming, but don't do it at the expense of the life that is happening around you: The people, the conversations, the random activity and the spontaneous adventure!
Things I'm Reading, Listening To and Watching This Week:
I encourage you to find some time to watch the film, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. I know it's on Hulu but may be on other streaming services. See what it triggers in you! We might explore this some more in the future.
I listened to a recent episode of How I Built This and the story of Bombas Socks. I like listening to start-up stories. They challenge me to think different!
This quote emerged this past week while listening to the John Lennon Essentials Album on Apple.
I'll mention this book by Joey Asher one more time: 15 Minutes Including Q & A. There is some great and simple truth about making an effective presentation.
I just listened to a great jazz album on Apple Music called Simply by the Jake Wendel Trio. Jake is the son of good friends and it's a really powerful album.
