Tuesday at 2:00pm with Russ

It's Tuesday at 2:00pm! (PST Time: I live and work from Southern California)

Currently, I'm exploring different leadership quotes on this blog post, and pulling out some application for all of us. This is part of my personal journey to keep growing, learning and being stretched! Join me each Tuesday at 2:00pm (PST). It will take you just a few minutes to read through the 2 sections of this post, but don't miss the final section where I share some of the things I'm reading, listening to and enjoying this week.

Russ

LEADERSHIP QUOTE:

"To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other and to feel, that is the purpose of life." The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

What does this stir up? Either write me HERE or comment at the end of the blog post HERE.

A LITTLE BIT DEEPER:

Last week, I referenced the film, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and received a number of comments about how much people enjoyed this movie.

I decided to spend a couple of weeks looking at some of the great quotes from the movie, and the first one I found was this:

"Hey Todd, I can't really talk right now. I'm on my way to a volcano."

Instead of diving into the depth of that one, I pulled the one above.

What does this say to you about the purpose of your life?

DEEPER STILL:

The line in that quote that jumps out at me is the first 4 words: "To see the world..."

Last night I went for a walk right as it was getting dark. The moon began to come up over the hill behind our house and it was a full moon that was just magnificent.  I stopped a couple of times to just stare at it and I found I was staring in WONDER.

Do you know that that world WONDER means?  "a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar or inexplicable."

When was the last time you stopped to WONDER about something you're seeing?

I had 2 experiences yesterday.... at the end of the day I saw the moon, but earlier in the day I had the privilege to hold my new grandson on my chest as he took a nice long nap.  Talk about WONDER.  I just stared at him, amazed at the creation of him and unable to fully understand something so beautiful.

"To see the world..." and be filled with WONDER. That's what I take away from this quote from Walter Mitty.  What about you?

Things I'm Reading, Listening To and Watching This Week:

  • Gina and I are reading this book together: The Other Half of the Church by Jim Wilder & Michel Hendricks. Really interesting conversation around Christian Community, Brain Science & Overcoming Spiritual Stagnation. We're just a few chapters in.

  • The soundtrack from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is pretty good too. Check it out on Apple Music or Spotify

  • I enjoyed this short playlist from Acoustic Heartstrings playing some of the greatest Tom Petty Songs.

  • If you're in Southern California, we're hosting an evening with Harbor Ministries at our home this Thursday Evening. Tim & Brian will be with us and we'll have dinner together and then have a Safe Harbor Experience. If you'd like to join us, send me a personal note HERE.

  • You know I'm a "How I Built This" fan. I just listened to the podcast on ButcherBox with Mike Salguero. Great story of failure, pivoting and success.
