It's Tuesday at 2:00pm! (PST Time: I live and work from Southern California)

LEADERSHIP QUOTES

We're exploring some great quotes that will help us in our lives and leadership. If you'd like to share your favorite with me, please post on the comments section of the Blog. You can read these past posts HERE.

The format for this season is the following:

#1) LEADERSHIP QUOTE: I'm going to share a quote with you. I'd like to encourage you to think about it, respond to it, process it. You can stop here, or go to Section 2.

#2) A LITTLE BIT DEEPER: I'm going to share a couple of thoughts that come to my mind when I think about the quote. Just a short reaction from me. You can stop here, or go to Section 3.

#3) DEEPER STILL: I'm going to share something I've found from someone else: A quote, some tips, a challenge, a thought....

#4) RUSS' LIST: I'll continue to share some links, ideas, books or products that I think some of you might benefit from.

LEADERSHIP QUOTE:

"If you can't fly, then run.

If you can't run, then walk.

If you can't walk, then crawl,

but by all means, keep moving."

Martin Luther King Jr.

What does this stir up? Either write me HERE or comment at the end of the blog post HERE.

A LITTLE BIT DEEPER:

I shared with you my desire to dive into these 3 words more intentionally this year:

PURPOSE - PACE - PRODUCTIVITY

The quote from Martin Luther King Jr. speaks to this directly with the challenge and the motivation to keep moving.

I've found that FEAR PARALYZES ME.

When I'm uncertain, when I'm concerned, when I don't know instinctively what to do, I freeze. Usually I don't freeze for long, but sometimes it's takes a little while for the plan, the clarity and the WIN (What's Important Now) to kick in.

I know people who freeze for long periods of time because they're afraid to make the wrong move.

The quote is a reminder to simply keep moving. Sometimes it means you have to slow down to a crawl, but don't stop, don't freeze, don't become paralyzed.

What causes you to STOP? What gets you STUCK? What do you do when you're not sure what direction to move in?

DEEPER STILL:

I was reading an article about the late Martin Luther King Jr. and something stuck out at me as I read the timeline of his activism and leadership. For about 11 years, King was everywhere. Anywhere there was injustice, he was there. The article shared that he flew over 6 million miles during those years and gave over 2,500 speeches.

That's movement!

When you know what you're passionate about, it drives you to action.

When we're not clear about what we deeply care about, it causes us to freeze.

The image of the disciple Peter, standing on the boat, longing to walk on the water is an image in my mind of overcoming fear to action. He actually climbed over the side of the boat, defying all reality, and walked on the water to be with Jesus. He wanted to be with him so bad, he moved.

What is your WHY? What are you compelled to be and do? What is drawing you from being stuck into action? If you can figure out what it is you've been placed on this earth to be and do, you won't slow down, but you'll accelerate.

Things I'm Reading, Listening To and Watching This Week:

  • I'm reading these 2 books again this month because of some work I'm doing with my ability to FOCUS. I enjoyed them the first time I read them, and am hoping to glean some new truth. Indistractable by Nir Eyal and Procrastinate on Purpose by Rory Vaden.

  • I stepped into a new part-time role with The Barnabas Group of Orange County as the Managing Partner. If you'd like to learn more about what The Barnabas Group is all about and you're here in Southern California, I invite you to join us at our next Quarterly Summit on February 18th. Contact me for more information!

  • I began using this online form builder that is working great. If you need to create an online form, look at Jotform.

  • I found this cellphone stand for my desk a couple of weeks ago, and I like having my phone upright on my desk instead of laying flat. Great product.

  • I listened to this great guitar duo the other day, and really enjoyed it: Rodrigo y Gabriela Essentials on Apple. Oh yeah, while we listened to that great music, we enjoyed an outdoor fire at our friends home using their new Solo Stove. Great product for an instant wood fire pit.
