LEADERSHIP QUOTES
We're exploring some great quotes that will help us in our lives and leadership. If you'd like to share your favorite with me, please post on the comments section of the Blog. You can read these past posts HERE.
The format for this season is the following:
#1) LEADERSHIP QUOTE: I'm going to share a quote with you. I'd like to encourage you to think about it, respond to it, process it. You can stop here, or go to Section 2.
#2) A LITTLE BIT DEEPER: I'm going to share a couple of thoughts that come to my mind when I think about the quote. Just a short reaction from me. You can stop here, or go to Section 3.
#3) DEEPER STILL: I'm going to share something I've found from someone else: A quote, some tips, a challenge, a thought....
#4) RUSS' LIST: I'll continue to share some links, ideas, books or products that I think some of you might benefit from.

LEADERSHIP QUOTE:
"Once you've committed yourself to something, pace yourself to the finish line." Meb Keflezighi
What does this stir up? Either write me HERE or comment at the end of the blog post HERE.
A LITTLE BIT DEEPER:
These words are powerful from the perspective of Keflezighi, a long-distance olympic runner.
But in life, they are just as powerful.
Pace can be defined as the "rate of movement" and/or the "rate of progress".
I've found that many times in my life, I commit to do something without anticipating or calculating the pace that will be required to actually accomplish it.
I find myself surprised and sometimes even dumbfounded that I miscalculated or didn't think it through.
Pace is critical because sometimes I push myself to a pace that is unsustainable, and it's at that time that things begin to fall apart and then I spend my time and energy managing disaster and trying to pick up the pieces.
I'm not a long-distance runner... just ask my High School Basketball Coach. I like to run in short spurts of energy, get some rest and then move again. This is kind of how I live my life.
Pace is important. Finishing well is important.
Are you moving at a pace that is sustainable or are you getting to a point of decision where something will have to change? Evaluate your pace today.
DEEPER STILL:
Paul writes in Hebrews 12:
"...and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith..."
Pace is important as each of us pursue the race that God has given us. It doesn't matter if you're a long-distance runner or a sprinter, we all are charged with finishing the race.
I want to encourage you to think of your PACE in 5 areas of your life: Your PERSONAL Life, your FAMILY Life, your CAREER, your FAITH and your COMMUNITY.
All 5 of these Life Domains require that you PACE yourself appropriately, running the race and pursuing the prize!
Take a deep breath today. Recently my wife and I took a morning and just STOPPED. It was rewarding, rejuvenating and gave us life. Today, stop running and spend some time evaluating your pace. Make some changes today that will affect you tomorrow!
Things I'm Reading, Listening To and Watching This Week:
I'm enjoying the classic book, "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. This book was written in the 30's and has some timeless insight for all of us.
I enjoyed listening to this movie soundtrack from years ago: The Commitments. Great SOUL, especially on Try a Little Tenderness.
I wrote about this over a year ago, but I just started using it again. Bodyblade was recommended to my by my chiropractor after an injury. I'm now using will I talk on a call! It works muscles in my shoulders I didn't know I had!
I enjoyed this podcast from How I Built This on the Leatherman, a tool I use and appreciate!
OK: My favorite Sharpie pen for journaling and taking notes!
