It's Tuesday at 2:00pm! (PST Time: I live and work from Southern California)
In this New Year I'm going to continue to explore some leadership quotes that might challenge us, inspire us or remind us of different aspects of the leadership journey. This is part of my personal journey to keep growing, learning and being stretched! Join me each Tuesday at 2:00pm (PST). It will take you just a few minutes to read through the 2 sections of this post, but don't miss the final section where I share some of the things I'm reading, listening to and enjoying this week.
I also invite you to share your favorite quote with a short description of "why it's your favorite". Simply send it to me HERE and I'll post it in an upcoming Tuesday at 2:00pm.
You can find past posts on my website HERE.
Enjoy!
LEADERSHIP QUOTE:
"There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind." C.S. Lewis
What does this stir up? Either write me HERE or comment at the end of the blog post HERE.
A LITTLE BIT DEEPER:
Thank you Chuck for sending me a number of C.S. Lewis quotes. I'm going to share a couple of these in the coming weeks.
This quote from Lewis has been used to encourage people to look to the future, to not give up and to live with an optimism for tomorrow.
This is all true and we should take these words in that way.
But when you dig deeper into where this quote comes from, it's from a letter he is writing to a friend who is dying, and Lewis is encouraging her with the hope of eternity, not just with a better and more productive life.
Lewis died 5 months after he wrote these words and he believed that his future was going to be so much greater than anything he had experienced on earth.
Do you believe that there are better things ahead for all of us? Do you dwell on the past and live with regrets?
DEEPER STILL:
I'm involved in some strategic planning for the 2023 year and am working on goals, work plans, creating some project outlines and working my calendar for the coming 12 months. There is much to do, and I'm excited about it.
Each day is a new challenge and a new opportunity and I want to work hard to do my best.
I also know that in the midst of all of this planning I need to take care of my soul and all that is going on inside of me.
I can't simply focus on the things I need to do and accomplish, but I must focus on who I am and how I move through this year in health, in abundance, in joy and in rest.
How is your soul doing today? Are you so busy planning forward that you don't have time to stop and listen and pay attention to what's happening inside of you?
Things I'm Reading, Listening To and Watching This Week:
Gina and I enjoyed a Tom Petty Cover Band this past week at a local concert venue, and we enjoyed listening to the real Tom Petty's Essentials Album. Great music from a legend.
I started the year sharing a book by John Eldredge called "Resilient". Well, I'm back again and this word is becoming a word of focus for me in this new year. Use the Pause App for a deeper dive into resilience with some daily practices.
Here are 100 Inspirational Quotes by C.S. Lewis in a book.
While traveling over the holidays, I downloaded this series on Netflix called The Recruit. I enjoyed it as a fun CIA thriller.
Got some new slippers for Christmas. I'm enjoying them and live in them when I'm at home. SLIPPERS!
FEATURED GUEST QUOTE: From Phil in Washington
"Talent, opportunity and perseverance will help you arrive - Character will decide if you stay." Brent Eldridge
FromPhil...I first heard this quote from Brent Eldridge in Lakewood, California. It is a powerful reminder to me that my character is more important than my talent, and ultimately my character is what will determine long-lasting (eternal) impact and success. There are lots of talented people in the world who are given great opportunities, and people work hard to get to where they are, only to lose it all because of a lack of character. I remind myself and my children regularly about the strong need to always be developing your character. This is done by submitting my life every day to Jesus and asking Him to be the one who helps me work on WHO I am before I work on WHAT I do.
