Tuesday at 2:00pm with Russ

It's Tuesday at 2:00pm! (PST Time: I live and work from Southern California)

In this New Year I'm going to continue to explore some leadership quotes that might challenge us, inspire us or remind us of different aspects of the leadership journey. This is part of my personal journey to keep growing, learning and being stretched! Join me each Tuesday at 2:00pm (PST). It will take you just a few minutes to read through the 2 sections of this post, but don't miss the final section where I share some of the things I'm reading, listening to and enjoying this week.

You can find past posts on my website HERE.

Enjoy!

LEADERSHIP QUOTE:

“Although individuals need not be well-rounded, teams should be."Tom Rath

What does this stir up? Either write me HERE or comment at the end of the blog post HERE.

A LITTLE BIT DEEPER:

Tom Rath has done extensive work in the area of strength development, and we've already talked about how important it is to not look for balance, but to really develop your natural, God-given strengths. This is where each of us have the most potential.

In the quote above, he adds something that's really important to understand.

Every person should bring their greatest gifts and strengths to play, however it's important for an effective team to understand what is needed from every single person, and then what the team needs to function at the highest level.

When we're a part of a healthy team, we all bring our strengths to the table, and they compliment each other, because our strengths are different, and we need the others to fill-in where we're weakest.

Being on an effective team is a complete rush because you learn to fire on all cylinders and stuff gets done!

When was the last time you were a part of an EFFECTIVE team? Does this quote ring true to you?

DEEPER STILL:

In 1 Corinthians 12, we read about THE BODY.

We're told that the body is ONE but with many members, and each of these members rely on each other, making every person an important part of the body.

What a great image of true teamwork, community, and God's design for his church.

We've messed this up a little bit in our need to stand apart, and stand above others. We seek praise, we want to be in charge, we want to get the credit, we want to WIN.

This isn't how it's supposed to be.

We all contribute, we all play a part, and that allows us to bring exactly who we were created to do and be and bring it to the table for the benefit of all.

What is the greatest thing you bring to a team you are currently on? Have you appreciated someone else on that team for what they bring?

Things I'm Reading, Listening To and Watching This Week:

  • Tom Rath

  • We enjoyed watching AIR: A Story of Greatness on Amazon Prime. It's the story of Nike and the contract they signed with Michael Jordan that changed their company and the industry.

  • You can read the full Nike story in the book by Phil Knight, Shoe Dog. I listened to it on Audible, and enjoyed the story!

  • We ran into the Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival this weekend as we went to a friends wedding.

  • Ran into a great community called the Faith Driven Entrepreneur/Investor. I'm digging in a learning more about it. Reading The Faith Driven Entrepreneur

  • I'm a part of a Convene Group here in Orange County. This past week we had our session day, and everytime I meet with these CEO's I'm challenged, encouraged and I learn something new. If you want to know more about Convene, let me know and I'll introduce you to the organization.
