Tuesday at 2:00pm with Russ

It's Tuesday at 2:00pm! (PST Time: I live and work from Southern California)

In this New Year I'm going to continue to explore some leadership quotes that might challenge us, inspire us or remind us of different aspects of the leadership journey. This is part of my personal journey to keep growing, learning and being stretched! Join me each Tuesday at 2:00pm (PST). It will take you just a few minutes to read through the 2 sections of this post, but don't miss the final section where I share some of the things I'm reading, listening to and enjoying this week.

You can find past posts on my website HERE.

Enjoy!

LEADERSHIP QUOTE:

“A culture is strong when people work with each other, for each other. A culture is weak when people work against each other, for themselves." Simon Sinek

What does this stir up? Either write me HERE or comment at the end of the blog post HERE.

A LITTLE BIT DEEPER:

This is the last quote from Simon Sinek we'll explore this month. He has some great work, and I encourage you to check out his resources.

I love this thoughts above because it is smothered in truth and many of us experience on a regular basis the negative side of culture.

The word COLLABORATION comes to mind. This word means simply, "the action of working with someone to produce or create something."

A healthy culture COLLABORATES for the benefit of each other. A weak culture can't COLLABORATE because everyone is working on their own, for themselves.

Think of a time when collaboration played a significant role in the success of something you did. What was it? How did that make you feel?

DEEPER STILL:

I remember years ago spending some time with an indian tribe in the jungles of Ecuador. We simply went in to spend a week with them, without an agenda. We were going to learn from them, try to understand a little bit of their culture and way of life, and simply build relationships.

After about 3 days, I remember being overwhelmed by the way these people took care each other, supported each other, celebrated each other and were a "real" community. The idea that they work WITH each other, FOR each other was evident in so many aspects of theirs lives, and I remember longing for more of that in my culture, in my community.

I run into so many people who are only concerned with themselves, and they don't consider what others want or need.

Sometimes I've preoccupied with this as well. Jesus teaches this culture when he simply said to "love your neighbor".

I want to be a part of a culture that is working together for the benefit of everyone.
