Tuesday at 2:00pm with Russ

It's Tuesday at 2:00pm! (PST Time: I live and work from Southern California)

Currently, I'm exploring different leadership quotes on this blog post, and pulling out some application for all of us. This is part of my personal journey to keep growing, learning and being stretched! Join me each Tuesday at 2:00pm (PST). It will take you just a few minutes to read through the 2 sections of this post, but don't miss the final section where I share some of the things I'm reading, listening to and enjoying this week.

LEADERSHIP QUOTE:

"Never give up on something that you can't go a day without thinking about." Winston Churchill

What does this stir up? Either write me HERE or comment at the end of the blog post HERE.

A LITTLE BIT DEEPER:

I'm diving into some great quotes from some famous authors of the past, and I've had a handful just jump out at me. Take a look at the past 3 quotes HERE, and today I rediscovered this quote from Winston Churchill.

I love this quote from Churchill.  It's a CHARGE and a CHALLENGE to keep going and to not give up. A number of times he used words like: "We will never give in" or "We shall never surrender". Sometimes he even repeated the words.... never, never, never to make a point.

So here he is simply telling us to not give up on something that we are spending a lot of time and energy focused on.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind? What are you thinking about everyday?

DEEPER STILL:

Recently I was talking with a young leader, and I asked him, "Why do you get out of bed in the morning?" I was trying to ask a question about motivation, but his response was one of obligation.

He talked about all of the things he HAD to do, not because he wanted to do them, but because there were things he was being paid to do or was responsible for doing.

I didn't sense any excitement or passion in his response, just a sense of ongoing obligation.

We all have obligations, but we also have opportunities.  Opportunities to dream, to imagine, to take risks, to make a difference.

I don't want to get to the end of my life and have a lot of regrets about things I wish I would have tried or done.  I want to get to the end of life celebrating everything... the risks, the failure, the adventure, the dreams, the challenges and opportunities.

Listen to Churchill: Don't give up on something that you can't go a day without thinking about. Instead, do something with that.

Things I'm Reading, Listening To and Watching This Week:

  • I just started reading this book, "Thriving on Overload: The 5 Powers for Success in a World of Exponential Information". Really interesting!

  • I spent some time with a group of leaders doing some strategic planning with the leadership of Oak Valley College. They have a great vision of a debt-free college degree specifically targeting first-generation students. Check out their website and vision.

  • I enjoyed listening to these great songs from Audio Adrenaline. This takes me back to the 80's and 90's.

  • My neighbor Kyle just came home with a Rivian Truck. It looks great, so I was really interested in the Rivian Story on How I Built This. What a great story that is still developing... but the truck is cool!

  • OK, I use Dollar Shave Club products... from shaving blades, to face wash to the product I put in my hair (yes, I use product to look like this!) Check it out HERE! (And I get a discount on my next order!)
